Force Unleashed breaks XBL download record

Demo for LucasArts’ upcoming Star Wars title gets a million downloads in just eight days

George Lucas’ games development and publishing outfit LucasArts has announced that its demo for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has set a new download record on Xbox Live, with the playable snippet being sampled over a million times since its arrival on Xbox Live.

This feat beats the record set by Silicon Knights’ Too Human demo recently, which notched up 900,000 downloads in its first week.

LucasArts added that when downloads from Sony’s PSN are taken into account, the demo has now been grabbed by over 2.3 million gamers across the globe.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released in Europe on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS and PS2 on September 19th – a week tomorrow.

It just a shame I found the demo so underwhelming as it has really put me in two minds about the purchase. Which prior to the demo I would have bought on release! Now I will wait at least a week for forum comments and reviews of the title before I make a purchase. I wonder how many other people found the demo unimpressive!

Horses for courses I guess, I really enjoyed it. Was dissapointed in how ugly Starkiller looks in the demo compared to Sould Calibur IV, but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed flinging stormtroopers across lauch bays and down caverns.
