UK Xbox price cuts confirmed

Microsoft confirms widespread rumours with new pricing structure; Cuts go live this Friday

UK consumers will be able to pick up an Xbox 360 console from just £129.99 after Microsoft confirmed its latest round of price cuts this morning.

From Friday September 19th Microsoft’s console line-up will be tweaked to offer the entry-level Arcade SKU at £129.99, standard console with 60GB hard drive for £169.99 and the Xbox 360 Elite, which comes with a 120GB hard drive, for £229.99.

“Xbox 360 has now sold over 20 million consoles worldwide and due to its unprecedented success, we are now able to pass on the rewards of that success to the consumer with a new retail pricing from £129.99,” said senior regional director of Microsoft UK Neil Thompson.

“With more games, more entertainment with Xbox LIVE and now even more value, we are looking forward to welcoming more customers into the leading next generation console, Xbox 360.”

"unprecedented success"? Yes, couple that with "unprecedented failure rates".

The worst built of the 3 consoles deserves to be given away.

Scary how MCV is becoming a magnet for fanboys...

This is perfect for the Xmas push. People will/are getting fed up of asking for Wii Fit, the PS3 is selling well but still has the 'little boy lost' feel about it, add this to the strong line up and this should still be a good holiday for MS.

Great a price drop. Ive just bought a new one because mine got the 1 red light. Phoned Microsoft and they said it would be £180 to fix, what a rip off.

I wonder if GAME will give me the difference back?

look enough with the fan boy stuff, the console is problematic, no one here has said one console is better than the other, it is a great xmas gift, but what about the possibility of a great deal of returns after xmas, this is the issue that needs sorting out, i want to sell hundreds of 360s as there are loads of games out to support it, more revenue for me, but we need confidence in the console, this is not a fan boy issue its a real life issue as a retailer,

Why didn't Microsoft adjust the prices when they released the 60gb?

Good way to annoy the consumers that have recently purchased the 60gb.

Anyone heard what price protection Gem are offering?

I would like to buy a XBOX360, only if they fix RROD thing, Wii has a problem too with its wiimote, the only console left is PS3 which is overly priced & has a few good games :P
This generation console-war was pretty much haywire. Everybody thought nitendo will finish poorly, everyone predicted Sony is going to be Nr 1, Everyone said Xbox360 is gonna be 2nd in the console war (which it is) ;).

Final Result: The developers can make or break the console wars :p, they dvelop multi-platform games and has a win win situation for them going on :P

no where hear did anyone say ps3 or any other console is better, please read comment 9 from a retailer, i am also a retailer and would love to sell 100 360s a week, but parents themselves are very cautious as they have all seen the youtube videos, we had a customer who was told by gamestation to wrap a damp towel around his faulty 360, this is madness, not fanboyizm, electrical goods should have a good record of reliability

Excellent news, they needed to drop the prices a bit more to try and capture the casual market with the dashboard update and some of their other games out this christmas.
Guess it also means the jaspers are about to hit these shores with these extra price drops which wil be nice for the extra reliability.

I've been waiting for the price when I can finally upgrade to a bigger machine, £170 for a 60G is well worth it I reckon. With the stellar line up over the next few months I think we'll shift a lot of these. £160 for a console, Banjo and Scene It? Add on a £20 points card for mums sudoku and uno this is a real deal for family gaming.

It is over for x360 in console war

even if the x360 costs 20 pounds no one in europe would buy it

PS3 has overtaken x360 in LTD WW sales in europe

PS3 now has a 2m console advantage in europe over x360

x360 is completely dead everywhere in europe except to some extent in UK

However price cut wont have any impact since no one wants an x360 in europe

x360 was the cheapest console already --arcade was 200 euro with 2 Free games

RIP MS

expect yourself to be slaughtered by PS3 with its Fall lineup ---LBP/MOTORSTORM 2/RESISTANCE 2/NARUTO/VALKYRIE/WIPEOUT HD /BIOSHOCK PS3 and ES PS3

RIP X360

x360 and PS3 are just 3m consoles apart --16m vs 19m

However PS3 will overtake x360 in console sales by the end of this year

X360 will definitely be last in console war

EU is a dead territory for x360. price cut wont revive something which is dead

This what comes of RSS feeds, the plague of the rabid fanboy trying to justfiy to themselves their own purchase of a different console.

I quite like my PS3 (judging from the post quality above they are Sony fanboys), its just a pitty that on line play is absolute rubbish. I guess you get what you pay for though, free rubbish or £3 per month (yes 3 quid, once you shop around for subscription a little) for a rock solid on line system with a decent voice comms set up.

I notice that the fanboys like to keep quiet about the shocking number of PS2 failures, most people I know have been through 2 or 3, usually due to DVD drive failures.

To WOW: it's £80 to repair a console, unless its 3 red lights, which is under a 3 year warranty. I would hope you just did a typo rather than just another BS fanboy.

As far as wikipedia is concerned

Xbox360 Units sold Worldwide: 19 million (as of April 25, 2008)

PS3 Units sold 14.41 million (as of June 30, 2008)

Wii Units shipped Worldwide: 29.62 million (as of June 30, 2008)

Wouldnt it be hard to top the Wii by PS3 or Xbox360? If the PS3 takes over Xbox360 I would definatley buy a PS3 for its reliabilty and less isssues, for now I'll just analyze :)
