Spectrum Collection heads to Gamestation

Alten8 teams up with UK retailer for release of retro Spectrum collection on PC

Retro fans may still be weeping after the news that Gamestation has burned the vast bulk of its retro games stock – but at least there’s something to rejoice in the news that the retailer is going to be the exclusive stockist of a new Sinclair Spectrum compendium for PC.

Publisher Alten8 is to release a limited edition pack called Spectrum Allstars Anthology, which includes three discs containing 130 emulated Sinclair Spectrum games. Gamestation will be the only UK retailer to sell the game.

The UK outfit also states that it will soon be confirming a number of new appointments and development contracts, as well as further company expansion and further IP deals.

This is assuming that no retro-religious crazies burn down every Gamestation for their management's crime...

I don't understand the exclusivity?

Surely this would sit better in Tesco attracting wife for husband purchases for nostalgic 35 plussers.

Even as a retailer it's the kind of thing my wife would pick up for me whilst she's buying a cheap Maeve Binchy paperback and the weekly shopping.

This is the kind of stuff that gamestations core audience is playing online for free.

It's an odd decision.
