EA to invade Chelsea Vs Man United

Four minute ad spectacular to take up entire half time commercial break during Sunday’s big game

Ahead of FIFA 09's release on October 3rd, EA has booked the entire half time ad break during Sunday’s Chelsea Vs Manchester United Premier League game to showcase the new title.

Airing just before the second half kicks off on Sky Sports One, the four minute ad (pictured) will begin a fully integrated TV, print and digital campaign.

The TV ads will show multiple length versions of the matches pitting Wayne Rooney and Manchester United against Gonzalo Higuaín and Real Madrid, and Karim Benzema and Olympique Lyonnais against Kevin Kurányi and Schalke04.

The print push will show the professional footballers with their gaming teams - for example, the Manchester United team was made up of Wayne Rooney and nine of the best football gamers in the world.

Digital marketing will be a multifaceted pre and post-launch experience including emails announcing the online demo, launch of the game and rich media banners driving people to the FIFA09 product site where, pre-launch, they will see fans announcing their predictions for the upcoming events and, post launch, they will see the events themselves.

There will also be a host of downloadable content and information on the innovations in this year’s FIFA.

My name is Warrington Minge and I was wondering if you could cash this small cheque?

Good advert I thought. Dragged on a bit but hugely impressive. They must have spent a couple of quid on it. The game looks decent too. Konami better have sorted the problems blighting PES 08 otherwise they're in trouble.

Typical EA and typical FIFA series. Big on slick presentation, loads of great music, big name licensed teams, big name football stars.

With all of this presentation EA have always tried to get the player stirred up about "the beautiful game", but the FIFA series always felt soulless when played.

It's s shame that the greedy FA and/or Premiership bigwigs (banning PES option files and all) couldn't have come to a better licensing arrangement, because the PES series is FAR MORE deserving of the official licenses.

Wish it could have been like the NBA games where any or more than one games company can use the official names and license.
