No stock shortages this Christmas either, says UK boss Neil Thompson
Senior regional director of Microsoft UK Neil Thompson has told MCV that the recent price cuts are the opening gambit in a peak season which will see “tens of millions” spent on marketing the Xbox brand.
Microsoft undercut market leader Wii in the battle for the gaming pound this week –cutting the price of its most popular ‘standard’ console for the third time in its history.
From today, the 60GB model will now cost the consumer just £169.99 – ten pounds cheaper than market leader Wii.
“We think that for high definition entertainment Xbox is first choice,” said Thompson.
“We’ve been talking to all of our retail partners about what we’re doing at Christmas and we’ve been very bold and ambitious about how successful we think we can be.

"Once you get to the price points we’re now at, the mass market can see the opportunity to step into the HD world.
“On marketing we’ll spend tens of millions – we’re going to engage in a very bold promotional push from now until Christmas.”
Thompson also ruled out shortages of the console as sales begin to climb – stating that there will be plenty to go around:
“I have been very bullish on supply for the UK market,” he added.

XBox 360 Should Sell Better In Europe Now.
This is great news for XBox 360 in Europe. M$ didn't do a great job last holiday with the Xbox 360, as they waited until after X-Mas to drop the price. Now they have dropped it TWICE in Europe (not 3 times like it says in the article) so there's no reason not to pick it up now. It's lower then the Wii and has more quality titles on retail shelves then the PS3 and Wii. I don't see any reason why gamers wouldn't want this system. With the Jasper GPU being put in the system this month, XBox 360 RROD should be a thing of the past at the end of the year. Jump In!!!

@XANDER:
"This is great news for XBox 360 in Europe. M$"
. . . thats as far as I read. I have learnt through bitter experience to stop reading as soon as I see M$. Was the rest of your post of any relevance?
Re: Re: XBox 360 Should Sell Better In Europe Now.
Not even sure why he has put "M$" when he seems positive towards Microsoft.
Anyway, I think MS will do very well this Christmas, I think alot of people will go out and buy one, they need to heavily advertise the "avatars" they have coming in the autumn dashboard update. If people see that kind of thing on tv, they'll be very intruiged, and If kids see that kind of thing before Christmas, parents can pick one up for less than a Wii. It does look promising for MS. Lets just see what happens.
Re: Re: Re: XBox 360 Should Sell Better In Europe Now.
Heres why I (still) won't be buying a 360:
No interest in Halo, Forza, Gears Of War or Viva Pinata.
long established reputation for hardware failure
Racist & Homophobic online abuse on XBox Live. Yes its the best system for online bullying!
Re: Re: Re: Re: XBox 360 Should Sell Better In Europe Now.
whoop de doo
"microsoft spends tens of millions on advertising, and makes hundereds of billions in revenue!!" - uh yea.. good ol microsoft
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: XBox 360 Should Sell Better In Europe Now.
If it’s free I might consider getting one (again)!
But after having sent five 360’s to be fixed I’ve now sold my expensive toy and bought that other expensive toy from the competition. In other words I’ve been burnt and learned my lesson the hard way, and won’t be returning to that format in hurry no matter how cheap it is.
