Platform holder boasts of ‘strong momentum' following price cuts

Microsoft has boasted of ‘strong momentum’ following last week’s UK price cuts – and announced that it has broken the six million sales mark in Europe.

The platform holder brought the entry-level SRP for the Arcade console down to £129.99 on Friday, with the standard 60GB 360 priced at £169.99 - leaving it with two consoles under Wii's bargain £179.99 pricetag.

The company also cut the price of its 120GB Elite to £229.99.

Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA, said: “We’re very excited that more consumers in Europe are joining the ever-growing Xbox 360 community. We’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of £129.99, and consumers have clearly responded to that offering.

“We’re supporting this momentum by putting launch-level investment into a European advertising campaign, launching this week, which shows how Xbox 360 is changing the way consumers experience entertainment. With the New Xbox Experience on the horizon, and great titles like Lips, Scene It?; You’re In The Movies, Fable 2, and more, there’s never been a better time to jump in to all that Xbox 360 offers.”

Is it past your bed time? getting a bit cranky?

"We’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of £129.99, and consumers have clearly responded to that offering."

This is fairly positive news and welcome in the run up to a lean xmas, price cuts should be good news!

Dont worry about larry, everytime theres some goodish news regarding the xbox 360 larry cries a little and feels the need to come and pout a little here like some 5 year old.

I'm quite suprised, I didnt realise they had sold that many in europe yet since its not that big in mainland europe, will be interesting to see how it does this quarter.

LOL @ Larry did u just come to this new post to say that talk about a fan boy loser

at the end of the day the PS3 has a price tag thats a little to spicy for the average gamer so what will you do if most of the game are on both ps3 and 360 well in terms of price 360 wins in terms of hardware ps3 wins...

and don;t go quoting the RROD go me i've had 1 xbox and 3 PS3's so :P just accept ur wonder box ps3 isn't winning at the moment and stop spamming.

if anything u should welcome the news it mean ur amazing black box of tricks might get a price cut before christmas :P

I would love to know how much they had increased by. What was the installed base two weeks ago?

This is a good thing for Both 360 and PS3. It may mean that Sony reduce the price of their box. Looks like a win win to me.

RROD should almost be a thing of the past too. Provided the Jasper internals hit soon. So that type of comment is getting less relavent.

@jimgoon: Go on then, I'll bite:
The figures relate to the number of 360's in europe. This includes replaced machines. You see RRODS are swapped out, on a one for one basis. One out, one in, so the total number of 360's in Europe remain the same as Sales of 360's in Europe. Its not rocket science.

6 million - but only because every 360-fan in Europe has to buy this unreliable hardware three oder four times... what a waste of money...

I can't beleive even with what people have posted above #9 still goes back to the same old arguement even though its not really relevant.

I've had 1 xbox for 3 years now, turn around on a console if it does get RROD is 2 weeks. I would MUCH rather that than the black doorstop I have currently sitting in my room gathering dust.

Therefore I don't trust Microsoft I don't trust any numbers which comes from them. Actually they say that they have sold so much, but they are not allowed to show the real numbers because of american stockholder laws and so on...
I don't believe that the RRoD-machines aren't counted by MS...

"Every 360-fan in Europe has to buy this unreliable hardware three oder four times...what a waste of money"

I've bought one 360, and one only. I've had my console for 2 and a half years, with no problems.

The only waste here, is you.. If you want to have some fanboy drivel wars. Go to the appropriate websites. Otherwise, Before you say anything else on here, PLEASE don't make the most biast and absurd comments.

Went haead and bought myself a 60gb premium. I cant understand this fanboy drivel both sides churn out. Think about it, Sony are going to be more or less forced to do something this xmas . . . . . i cant wait. Would love a PS3 for god of war 3 and Gran Turismo and Little Big planet . . . . .

Woodins, same here, If the PS3 can take another price cut, £50-£100, I'll be getting one.

I know Sony said they won't price cut again this year, But surely this has to give.

i'm not a big fan of all these price cuts. It lowers the value of the machine and the games... who wants to pay half the price of the console for a game?

I hope they aren't pricing the machine into the ground just to gain a foothold for the next generation. We should be prolonging this generation as long as we can for all involved.

Developers can't handle another jump and I doubt consumers really want one.

These price drops are too much too fast if you ask me, rely on your Christmas line-up to sell the machines not the dirt cheap price.

@1 By your PS3 may be 8m by now you are not to speed.

The actual PS3 figure for Europe is 6,2 million.
This is take from the same source as the 360 6million figure.

So theres nothing in it really. The Wii is blowing both away.

Saurian, the fact that the PS3 has got to more than the 360 in much, much less time on sale doesn't say anything to you?
