Post-price cut figures leave console outselling PS3 two-to-one, says Microsoft

Microsoft has claimed that UK Xbox 360 sales increased by 214 per cent since after it dropped the price of the console last week – outselling PS3 by two-to-one.

The firm has pointed at both the dip in SRP and a huge, megabucks marketing campaign, highlighting the mainstream-friendly aspects of the system, such as music, movies and family gaming ‘moments’.

VP of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA Chris Lewis,  said:

“This data shows that the Xbox 360 trajectory continues upwards, and not just in the UK. We’ve seen uplift in all countries in Europe and are confident that even at this rate of growth we can keep retail satisfied with a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season.

“Our commitment to continuously improving and innovating new content, our new high-profile marketing campaign and the fact that we’re now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of £129.99 combine to make Xbox 360 the right blend of gaming and wider experiences at the right price to offer unparalleled entertainment for everyone. And these figures prove it.”

I'm very happy for Microsoft, now if they could invest some of that in MAKING THE BLOODY THINGS PROPERLY I wouldn't have a mountain of faulty ones in my stockrrom awaiting return. We sold 20 60gb premiums and 6 elite's last week, have had 10 of them back already scratching disks or RROD. It's a joke.

Dave.

Whilst their is a design flaw, your customers must have been knocking their consoles whilst they were on for them to 'ring' the disks.

We had returns when the 'little darlings' found the DVD drives had changed and they couldn't Flash them.
Other returns include '4 red lights' (not RROD). Its the AV lead not attached.
Sometimes the customer is not all right.
And of course, once the box is opened there is little else we can do except send it back,.
Still had some real RROD though, but many are kids trying it on.

Not true, we have demo machines behind the counter that never get touched that scratch disks every now and then for no apparent reason.

if you sell more then its good there are more games out for 360, i used to own a 360 after 1 year i got 3 red lights and micosfot didnt want to know, so i got a ps3 when it came out, you cant argue with the 360 price, if it goes wrong who cares, i didnt design it, im no microsoft, they fix it, or what happens in my shop kids cant wait for it to be fixed so they buy another console, its a win win situation here,
i personally prefer ps3 for free online, blu ray etc etc, but im in business so what ever sells is great

It's quite interesting this whole RROD phenomena, I don't know a single person who this has happened to. I too feel like I'm missing out here, what can I do to actually initiate an RROD?

@Reythor: Well, mine happened when I was moving cables around behind my TV.
My 360 had been sat under the tv on a glass shelf since launch day. Then I got a cable stuck under one of the feet and when I pulled it out the 360 'fell' about 7mm.
Oh dear - I thought - thats not good, Not two days before Halo 3 launch..
And when I turned it on. . .It wasn't good.
MS were great though. Really nice Customer service. Turned it around in two weeks.
Somehow I still blame myself for this. Even though it shoudl survive a 7 mill fall.

So, dropping the XBox 360 console onto hard surfaces can damage it?
