Is Nintendo prepping new hardware range?

Rumours point to announcement of both a revised DS and upgraded Wii HD

Momentum is growing behind rumours that Nintendo is preparing to unveil updates to both of its market leading consoles.

Talk of a redesigned DS has been doing the rounds for quite some time, and the latest murmurings suggest that a new handheld boasting two touch screens, an integrated digital camera and improved wi-fi internet performance is ready for release later this year.

Commentators point out that Nintendo is keen to gain advantage over Sony’s resurgent PSP, which has outsold the DS in Japan in the last six months. Some are saying the new machine could be unveiled at tomorrow's anticipated Japanese press briefing, or at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.

Elsewhere, What They Play is claiming to have word on an updated Wii console, dubbed the Wii HD, which will offer greater graphical clout than the current model. The upgrade is said to be similar in nature to the company’s transition from game Boy to Game Boy Advance.

^^ Valid comments Sir!

My main concerns, and i know its been brought up loads of times is third-party support. Nintendo really have to get publisher, and more importantly consumer awareness, beyond the bounds of Nintendo consoles based around their in-house line-up. Its the most limiting factor for Ninty at the moment I feel.

well why not, it wont be this xmas, so theres no need to worry about shortages, its way too late to launch new hardware now, but why not get customers to buy new hardware that does the same as the last hardware but with a few little additions, its funny i think how silly customers can be, paint a ds lite pink and it sells thousands, quality !

This just wont happen.

The Wii is selling too well (still) to justify any move that would render it obsolete.

If there is a new machine coming, then comparing the transition as being similar to that of the GB to the GBA, is absurd.

Microsoft and Sony have proved that their sell-below-cost-and-make-it-back-on-games strategies are not only deeply flawed, but more or less a guaranteed road to financial failure.

The Wii isn't SUPPOSED to have excellent graphics, and based on their sales figures, next to no-one cares.
