Nintendo unveils DSi

DS gets a facelift with bigger screens and two cameras

Nintendo has officially revealed its new DS SKU, the DSi.

The new console, which MCV yesterday exclusively confirmed would be revealed, is similar in design to the DS Lite, but features two cameras, larger screens, improved speakers, and an SD memory card slot.

The machine is also 12 per cent thinner than the DS Lite, and features an SD memory card slot so gamers can take images with the handheld and view them on Nintendo’s Wii.

As a trade off, the GBA cartridge slot has been removed.

Reports from Nintendo’s press conference, which took place in the early hours, also point to internal memory for applications, a built in web browser, and the ability to download DSi software using Nintendo Points, which are set to replace Wii Points.

The DSi will be available in Black and White, and is set for release on November 1st in Japan, and is expected to hit Europe in Spring 2009.

But does it stop the R4 cards ?
No point in releasing this if the software isnt going to sell with it - also will be interesting to see what happens with games like Guitar Hero not being able to use the gba slot

Hopefully the SD slot will allow you to run Homebrew from it, thus negating any excuse for people having an R4 card.

i totally agree, no point in this unless it stops R4 cards, are software sales for ds is rock bottom now, if they dont help us with stopping r4, and all other cards to play downloaded games, nothing will change
