Wii to drop to £150 as price war heats up
MCV sources have revealed that Sainsburys are set to aggressively cut the price of Wii and 360 hardware.
As of tomorrow morning, the supermarket chain will reportedly cut the Nintendo Wii from £179.97 to £149.97, whilst the Xbox 360 Arcade is to be dropped from £129.97 to £99.97. The Xbox 360 60GB is also going to be reduced from £169.97 to £139.97.
The deals are set to run between October 3rd and October 12th.
This promotion follows in the footsteps of Morrison’s half-price chart game offer last month, and coincides with the release of FIFA ’09, which has been cut in price at Tesco and Asda.

a new supplier
great, im now not buyin hardware from koch, or gem, as thats my pofit margin out the window, well if you can call it profit !! great another supermarket as my supplier, im starting to get to know all the staffs names at all my supermarkets !!!
Re: a new supplier
Maybe we should all start selling bread & apples and slash the arse out of the prices.
If publishers and distribution care about our industry then they should refuse to keep the supermarkets in supply before its too late.
Re: Re: a new supplier
Well that's a free economy for you. Sorry but as a customer all I really care about is getting the goods as cheaply as possible.
ha ha
thats ok jebus im sure your getting ripped off for something less obvious, but i agree if i didnt work in a games shop i could be a gamer its too expensive, but selling items at below cost price is crazy and eventually when there is no competiton prices will rise again, then what will you say?
Re: ha ha
When a grocer has to make 4% margin across the whole store of course they are going to slash goodsto get people in the door and then make it all up and more on beans and bread.
Re: Re: ha ha
Hopefuly those suppliers like Gem will suffer with job cuts as more and more indies start toget their stock from the supermarkets!
What goes round comes round.
Re: Re: Re: ha ha
Come on Sony, price cut for the PS3!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: ha ha
£99? Christ that's cheap.
Re: Re: Re: Re: ha ha
@ Jebus
Well thats all well and good, but as consumer all you're doing is helping the market come crashing down, and when there's no indies or specialist games retailers left, because of people like you supporting the likes of Tesco, then you'll only have yourself to blame when you're paying premium prices for all you video game related goods.
I'll just point and laugh at you're when you're paying £49.99-£59.99 for a video game that you can't trade in anywhere.
Good for the consumer
But not good for Indie stores and well I guess other stores too, but there are always those that will complain but the consumer will not as this is an awesome bargain for a 360.
doesnt bother me
just means more returns for sainsbury on the red light issue and less for me, as i cant reduce my consoles this low, so i just wont restock from gem any more, sainsbury is welcome to the head ache of 360, i will work on selling the games, new and used, no profit in consoles anyway, esp if 360 is now cheaper than a ds, ha ha how funny, DS is actually more repliable than 360 !!
Re: doesnt bother me
‘RROD’ isn’t that what Elvis died of!
RROD = Fanboys
@ Jones what RROD? The only ones that still use that as an exuse are fanboys, are you a fanboy because they way you have typed sure enough sounds like one...And may I ask what is 'repliable'? Did you mean reliable or was you typing too fast as your fanboy mode was on supercharge that you failed to even spell a simple word?
In any case RROD issue is dead old hat and gone. The only ones that will not move on from this problem are the PS3 fanboys that have nothing better to do.
Re: Yippee
went to sainsburys this morning - got Wii's for £150 & Xbox 360 £30 off great took 45 Mins as the Doris on the customer service desk didn't know what an Xbox 360 was then tried to tell the 20gb was the only one they had - got 60gb in the end - only had 4 360's in stock - I suppose this is another way that supermarkets lure punters in in the hope that pissing them off by having no stock will make them buy bread & butter as a replacement

Re: Re: Yippee
Sainsbury's have sent out a memo to staff to say this is incorrect. The price has not changed.
@jack black
not sure if your a retailer mate, but i sold an elite and a pro pack last saturday both returned to me for exchange on monday morning, so this is still a very real issue for us retailers, i will sell any consoles but this does still happen, wish people would stop pushing this fan boy thing around, maybe its you who is the fanboy as you dont seem to like the truth, and as for attacking someone on his spelling, only makes me believe this more, who cares if the spelling is incorrect, did you understand the point being made??
honestly,
as for fan boys
really just look at the story on 360 sales increases people are attacking that, and then there is a story on ps3 sales increasing, again people attacking that, sorry to say everyone on here seems to be as bad and immature as each other, no one has a good word to say about consoles, only the wii is left alone !! im gonna sell bread as mentioned on here, cause you lot make me sick,cant stand reading any more of this rubbish
Re: as for fan boys
@Jack Black and this comment "In any case RROD issue is dead old hat and gone. The only ones that will not move on from this problem are the PS3 fanboys that have nothing better to do."
Sorry to burst your bubble but I'm a retailer and I can confidently tell you that the RROD is still very real. True the problem isn't as frequent as it once was, but it's still an issue.
Re: Re: as for fan boys
To those retailers that still think the RROD exists, you are being duped by clever customers who want a new console, because they believe new ones are better!!!
Record the serial number of every console you sell on the receipt. Then check the serial number of the one being returned. You will see they do not match.....don't be a target keep a note of every serial numer of every console you sell and to whom, and your problem will dissaper......
Re: Re: Re: as for fan boys
@A Little Help
My place of work does just that, and we get RROD returns at a rate of 5+ a week, my own 60gb brand new console, bought on the launch of the 60gb, RROD'd after one day of use. Do you honestly think any self respecting retailer has not thought of what you have posted eh? It's common practice. We get all types of 360 back with this issue, and many other issues.
Re: Re: Re: Re: as for fan boys
@20
Jesus H Christ, how fu*king stuipd do you think we are?
Look, dickhead, the RROD is till an issue, accept it.
Lazy
These price cuts are just lazy retailing anyone can give stuff away they should try selling for a change then maybe they will make a legitimate profit instead of cooking there books so much they are burnt you can only sell product at a loss or cost for so long it will catch up with you Re:Woolworths who will more than likley will be gone this time next year if not sooner.
Re: Lazy
Hahaha. Aww, the ickle retailers can't play with the big boys, awwwww. You can't compete with Sainsbury's buying power, that's life. Quit whining and start another business you losers.
Re: Re: Lazy
@ Steve2:
Why would they want to compete? Sainsburys aren't making anyone profit out of this stunt.
I can't see them selling that many anyway, if that were serious about this they would have done a lot more advertising.
pathetic
Um - again, is this meant to be a trade site or yet another halo 3 forum or something. Seems to me the people that have something legitimate and interesting to say seem to be the people in the industry and the people that argue over the most trivial crap seem to be 14 year old consumers.
For the worlds sake I hope you are 14 anyway as the immature and pathetic argument I am starting to see on here is nothing short or rediculous. For the people in the trade - the forum is next door where people that have a clue and give a damn go. With regards to the comments section - MCV, please take them off because it is soul destroying.
Re: pathetic
@9
What a ridiculous comment. Shopping at Tescos is destroying the industry? Once all the indies have died out the competition between the supermakets will keep prices low. I reckon i won't have to pay more than £30 for a new release ever again!!! Which, for me, is excellent news - I'm skint!
NOT RROD AGAIN
I can't believe this arguement is still going on. Everyone knows its real or Microsoft would not have put massive £500million (or whatever it was) contingency in the accounts for returned Elites, as was reported on here a while back.
But............. its NOT a problem, even sending the Xbox to Germany its a 2 week return and your box is as good as new, and you get this guarantee for 3 YEARS. So I see no problem there, I say thank you for the Warrenty Microsoft. Where is the PS3 3 year warrenty !?!?!
Just for the record everyone conveniently forgets about the PS3 lense problems. For the record I am on my Second PS3 which lasted all of 4 months before it suffered Lense issues. Yet my original Xbox of getting on for 2 years is still going strong.
