Microsoft’s Xbox 360 momentum continues, though DS dominates the hardware market
Hot on the heels of its two successive weekly victories in the Japanese hardware charts, Microsoft has won another Far Eastern battle by outselling Sony’s rival PS3 console for the month of September in Japan, Reuters reports.
Throughout the month Microsoft sold 53,547 Xbox 360 consoles, ahead of PS3’s 33,071 sales.
Both were outstripped by Nintendo, however. The Wii sold 109,548 units in September, whilst DS ruled the roost with sales of 234,477. PSP shifted 109,274 machines.
Whilst Xbox 360 has also been enjoying success closer to home, Sony does at least have some things to cheer about. Despite a poor September, the PSP continued its Japanese resurgence recently by leading the year-to-date battle, whilst US sales of both its home and console platforms are ahead of expectations.

ok isnt this a repeat
hmm didnt you run this story 3 days ago? i hope mcv isnt goin the way of IGN and gamespot, who both seem to be funded by microsoft, seems like a story for storys sake,
Re: ok isnt this a repeat
FANBOY ALERT! FANBOY ALERT! Reporting on verified sales figures that are good news for Microsoft does make a site 'funded' by Microsoft. Grow up.
no no
come on, i read this article myself 3 days ago, im just wondering why its at the top of the list of articles myself,
i have to admit i dislike ign and some other sites as they are clearly more favourable to one console, i dont care what sells more, so long as its being sold in my store, i prefer one console over the other but i have my own reasons for that, but business is business, and lets be honest ive read on here as soon as there is any good news on the sony front, its shot down in minutes, so i think everyone is a bad as each other,
Re: no no
C'mon Stevie, that's not fair. We report all sales data news, be it in favour of Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. Microsoft has been producing some good stats recently - that's not our fault! All three companies have had some impressive numbers this year and we've reported on all of them.
The fact is in this day and age no website or magazine can report on anything that reflects well on any given platform holder without being labelled as biased - which is unfortunate.
Re: Re: no no
I'm not pointing at finger at you or MCV Ben but some [other] sites/mags do come across as biased, you can tell it by the tone of the journalism, and if they had a more fairer/neutral representation of the multi-format scene then they wouldn't so frequently be accused of being biased as such.
Re: Re: Re: no no
yeah i totally agree with this, i see more and more unfair reviews and reports of multi plaform games,
using little issue to score points over the same game on a rival console, its cheap tacky and its the internet for you, hence fan boys etc, you would think these sites would have a small amount of professonalism, but ive seen it myself, sad but true, just look at tabloids and how many times they are sued for complete fabrications, lies and made up stories, same for ign etc
figures
Still not seeing any improvement on 360 sales in our UK store. It has been the 3rd best selling console every month of the year for us (not including handhelds). We naturally expect numbers to increase in the next three months but then we expect the same of all the consoles.
wasn't it weekly sales??
I think that MCV published weekly sales figures a few days ago. I don't remember ever seeing a 'monthly' story.
As a neutral I think most sites are more likely to post negative stories about MS than positive. They seem to be an easy target.
On the sales themselves I guess we can officially announce that SONY's dominance is over. Whatever happens from now on they have a massive bloody nose.
Re: wasn't it weekly sales??
This is great news.
Granted, its fueled by a certain release and will most likely fall behind PS3 sales again once the rush is over but the reason I think its great is because I personally feel that Sony was still convinced it had nothing to worry about in Japan when it came to the 360.
This will no doubt make them pull their socks up and get cracking with some key titles to get themselves back on top.
In my opinion, thats a good thing as it will bring out the best in both companies which ultimately benefits the gamers.
While I was reading the post, for a brief minute, it felt like the old days of gaming again......sigh...
Re: Re: wasn't it weekly sales??
@The Trader: I don't think you're going to sell any 360's this weekend either, with Sainbury's selling them for £99.
XB Sales
I think your first commenter was correct, is this a forum for MS PR? XB 360 have NOT sold 6 MM in Europe yet (believe me it is 5.8 MM ) and PS3 is still gaining at the ratio of 2;1 despite the XB price drop. PS3 is at 6.4MM in Europe and in France last week outsold XB 360 by 2:1, same in Germany, 6: 1 in Russia..
I know I analyse these things all day. However the Japan figure is correct, I live here, I know.

Re: XB Sales
Tomoko, you are the new Larry ?
Re: Re: XB Sales
Sam, going by your previous post's, your just as bad with the 360 fanboyism. Personally, I think these figures should be posted on a monthly basis just to stop the constant whipping up the fanboys on either side.
Re: Re: Re: XB Sales
@ 13 i agree, im getting fed up with my dads bigger than your dad, as no one will ever agree, or even accept that there are positives about both consoles
Re: Re: Re: Re: XB Sales
Not to be funny Hnbeanz, But Sam does have a point. I'll take Tomoko's comments with a pinch of salt, as if He is joking. Otherwise it's nothing more than more fanboy drivel on MCV.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: XB Sales
Hnbeanz, obviously you didn't read carefully.
