JAPAN: 360 outsells PS3 in September

Hot on the heels of

its two successive weekly victories in the Japanese hardware charts

, Microsoft has won another Far Eastern battle by outselling Sony’s rival PS3 console for the month of September in Japan,

Reuters

reports.

Throughout the month Microsoft sold 53,547 Xbox 360 consoles, ahead of PS3’s 33,071 sales.

Both were outstripped by Nintendo, however. The Wii sold 109,548 units in September, whilst DS ruled the roost with sales of 234,477. PSP shifted 109,274 machines.

Whilst Xbox 360 has also been enjoying success closer to home, Sony does at least have some things to cheer about. Despite a poor September, the PSP continued its Japanese resurgence recently by leading the year-to-date battle, whilst US sales of both its home and console platforms are ahead of expectations.
