FIFA 09 enjoys record-breaking week one

Just two weeks after LucasArts’ The Force Unleashed

set new records for week one sales of a Star Wars title

, FIFA 09 has smashed the previous performances of EA’s sports sim to become one of the fastest selling games ever in the UK.

FIFA 09 shot straight to the top of the Gfk-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 yesterday, holding two fingers up to the credit crunch by bettering the first week sales of FIFA 08 by an incredible 37.5 per cent.

42 per cent of the game’s sales were on Xbox 360, making it the third fastest selling game ever on Microsoft’s format behind only Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3. PS3 accounted for 40 per cent of the sales, with only Rockstar’s crime hit enjoying greater first week sales.

The PS2 version claimed 11 per cent of sales, the PSP three per cent whilst the rest was shared between Nintendo’s formats and PC.
