Halo Wars will ‘revolutionise’ RTS genre, says Microsoft

UK entertainment boss says strategy spin-off will have similar effect to its big brother

As the world goes ga-ga over the news of Halo 3: Recon, Microsoft’s UK marketing boss has told MCV that strategy spin-off Halo Wars will “revolutionise” the RTS genre.

Head of gaming and entertainment at Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division Stephen McGill told MCV:

“Any release in the Halo universe is sure to appeal to the millions of Halo fans around the globe.

"The original Halo revolutionised how first person shooters were played on a console and was the leading title in driving the success of that genre on the home console. We fully expect Halo Wars to do the same for real time strategy.”

McGill was speaking in an exclusive full interview to celebrate the first anniversary of Halo 3, which you can read here.

No it won't because I know lots of Halo fans that won't be buying this game because it looks like a boring RTS imo of course. I won't be buying it.

It's arrogance on Microsoft's part to issue that kind of bold statement.

Wow. The 'arrogance' of MS hyping up their software. And how about that Apple company, always going on and on about their ipod. Oh and Sony harping on about Little big planet. It make me so mad. all this advertising!!

Jeez guys, Grow up!

. . .oh, and for the fanboy insane: 1st part of this comment is sarcasm, The second part is heartfelt, and this bit. . .well this bit seems sadly necessary on this site at the moment.

i dont mind any one promoting their product, just seems the words used as always massively over the top statements that hardly every deliver, esp in MS case, i thought halo 3 was terrible, rts games tend to appeal to rts fans, so im not sure how big this title would be, maybe they could label it casual game, like gears of war 2, great marketing again !! what console is gears out on?

360 will eventually be the biggest console and sony wil give up when its not profitable, and that will be soon, with halo recon, halo wars, gears 2, 3, fable 3 sony cant combat this and the rock bottom price of 360 lower than wii !!! love it
