Gamescom signs up as silver sponsor
Gamescom, the major new name in the video games industry’s event calendar for 2009, has signed up as a Silver Sponsor for next week’s Games Media Awards.
Gamescom will take place in Cologne from September 9th-13th, with a trade day on the 9th. It has already received an enthusiastic reception amongst manufacturers and publishers and has garnered the full, exclusive backing of German trade body, the BIU.
Partnering with the GMAs is part of show organiser Koelnmesse’s mission to spread awareness of this major new event through all levels of the industry, including, of course, the media.
The Games Media Awards, taking place at Jongleurs Comedy Club in Camden next Thursday evening (October 16th) is the biggest games media gathering of the year. With categories covering the mainstream, specialist, print and digital sectors, it will attract attendees from all the biggest dedicated games mags, the most important national newspapers, the broadcast industry, dozens of websites and the party-loving lads mags.
Koelnmesse CEO Oliver P Kuhrt commented: “We have become a partner of the Games Media Awards 2008 because it is an outstanding media communication platform for the UK and other territories.”

PR and communications manager Franko Fischer also added that he is looking forward to attending the awards event and being able to meet the assembled media stars in person.
The GMAs Gold Sponsors are Nintendo, Microsoft, Activision, Codemasters and EA. Silver Sponsors are 505 Games, Koch Media, Gamecock and Gamescom.
Individual Category Sponsors are Ubisoft (Mainstream Magazine Games Writer), Rising Star Games (Rising Star Award) and Atari (Games Media Legend).
A handful of Trade tickets are still available.
