Left 4 Dead pre-orders ahead of Orange Box

Valve’s upcoming zombie shooter enjoys bigger pre-release popularity than Half-Life 2’s The Orange Box

Half-Life 2 developer and Steam owner Valave has stated that North American pre-orders for its upcoming console and PC shooter Left 4 Dead are currently 60 per cent ahead of those enjoyed by The Orange Box at the same stage before its release.

Speaking to Edge Online, Valve MD Gabe Newell stated: “Pre-orders are running 60 per cent ahead of Orange Box. This in combination with the fact that it is a new IP made us think that an extensive marketing program made a lot of sense.

“Left 4 Dead has a long way to go to beat Half-Life and Counter-Strike, but our fans' excitement when they play the game has certainly infected us. It will be a top five title for the year, but beyond that we'll have to see how big it gets.”

Supporting the pre-release excitement, the firm has committed to a $10 million marketing spend in North America that includes extensive TV coverage, as well as coverage in the online and print media and an elaborate outdoor advertising initiative.

Left 4 Dead is due to hit UK retail on November 21st.

Your being rather arrogant saying "too lazy", Valve have said 2 things:

1. They don't have anywhere near the resources to be able to create it on PS3.

2. They don't want to do it.

Valve have already expressed their negative views about the PS3, But EA are looking to port it to the PS3. But It's not even started yet, So it may be quite a wait.

What I don't understand is their are a large amount of retail website listing pre-orders for it on the PS3, with a release of 21/11/08. Surely they have better knowledge than that.

Valve is lazy... Wow! What an ignorant statement that is to make about one of the hardest working companies in the business.

PS3 = too much of a headache for most to bother.

Valve ROCKS! Long live PC!

you all sounds like fanboys, ok lazy maybe over the top, but maybe if value pulled their finger out there could be more revenue to made from ps3 owners here, seems a shame this goes exclussive by default, if EA port it no doubt it will be terrible
