MCV celebrates industry's rising stars in 30 Under 30

Nominations now being invited from across retail, publishing and media

The UK games market's rising stars are set to battle it out for industry recognition, as MCV lines up its annual presentation of the top 30 hot shots aged under 30.

The feature will once again highlight the achievements and exertions of the industry's younger execs working across the UK games industry. All sectors of the market will be covered – with the exception of games development. A separate 30 Under 30 feature by MCV's sister publication, Develop, will shine a spotlight on the creative community's hottest young talent in the New Year.

MCV will publish the 30 Under 30 feature in the issue dated October 31st and we're now inviting all readers to nominate a rising star from within the business.

For a nomination to be considered, it must include a hi-res photo of the candidate, their job title and role, age, plus a short explanation of why that person should be considered.

Nominations should be submitted to Lisa.Foster@intentmedia.co.uk no later than Wednesday October 22nd.

I would tend to agree with the above comment. Does the industry stop at the under 30's and 30's then?

The answer to that is no. I am a big fan of MCV but how about highlighting the older categories i.e. over 30

Come on let's so show some balance to this please

P.S. Keep up the good work :)

If you're over 30 and not an 'industry face', you are basically noone in this business like me. :(

Easy now... MCV do loads of other awards where the youngsters tend not to get a look in - Industry Excellence awards, Grand-Prix etc...

Sounds to me like you lot are all 30+

and if we are 30+ should it matter? I dont see a Top 40 over 40 award or anything that celebrates those older.

The other awards are also open to those under 30, so it doesnt really 'celebrate' those older. Very ageist!

It's all about promoting young talent, who like it or not will be the one's in charge later down the line. IMO everyone gets a fair shout, I dunno where this ageist bs came from and you wouldn't catch me moaning about it if I was outside of the age range...

That's maybe the problem you're not outside the age range maybe when you get there you'll be qualified to comment because then you may appreciate how others feel and that's not bs that's for real!!!

And another thing with the exception of the 30's who won't be featuring the following year a lot of the same under 30's show up year after year whether it's their photo or honourable mention so a more general feature would probably be more relevant as you are bound to have more nominations and different people featuring each year. Just an idea. Maybe ageist is a harsh comment but I am sure there are lots of people in different age brackets that deserve nomination for the work they do on a daily basis and will still be around in years to come.

I still don't see the problem. If there was an under 20's achievement award I wouldn't feel like you guys do about this one.

And the hard workers will always get recognition for their achievements, just not in this particular feature.

No Problem just voicing an opinion as we are entitled to and giving our view on what we would like to see.

No bs just real views!

An under 20's achievement award for the industry is highly unlikely seeing as most under 20's will not long have been out of education.

@ 20

... and if they were they would still qualify as 'under 30' anyway. :P

Urm... yeah, but that pushes out the 21-30 year olds... of which I am one. Kinda missed my point. Still, I see what you all mean... I just happen to think it's a good feature, especially for those lucky enough to get featured.

I've heard people getting head hunted through being part of this feature - I take nothing away from the feature nor it's winners.

You're right about the headhunters. As I understand it, certain high profile retailers and publishers have even banned any nominations for their younger executives in fear of them being snapped up by the competition. So, in reality, the poll is probably not a true reflection of the best 30 anyway.

So why dont we have a top 40 over 40's? Because I seriously am unsure we have 40 people over 40 in the Games Industry do we?
Lets analyse why that is....mmmm because the industry is ageist...and the main reason is to do with magazines like MCV and awards like this promoting that mindset. Typical comments about these people being in charge in the future BLAH BLAH BLAH how the f**K do you know that. I could be 32 today and manage my studio for another 30 years whilst 25yr old Tiny Tim could retire at 55 never having managed anything.
I am seriously dismayed that MCV has such a lack of imagination to run this competition again "cos its wot other industries do".
