Konami football title debuts at number one, FIFA drops to second, Saints Row 2 in at three
This week’s official GfK-ChartTrack/ELSPA listings are out – and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 has taken the top spot ahead of its bitter rival FIFA ’09.
While EA’s mega-selling football franchise takes second spot, it’s an impressive first week for THQ’s gangster title Saints Row 2, which is the second highest entry of the week.
The release of Bioshock on PS3 boosts 2K’s critically-acclaimed thriller back up the charts to 14, while Wii exclusive De Blob makes it first appearance in the ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack top 40 at number 29.
So, the top ten sellers for the week ending October 18th, courtesy of ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack, are as follows:
1. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (Konami)
2. FIFA ’09 (EA)
3. Saints Row 2 (THQ)
4. LEGO Batman: The Videogame
5. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
6. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
7. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (LucasArts)
8. Wii Play (Nintendo)
9. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 (EA)
10. Brothers in Arms: Hells’ Highway (Ubisoft)

Re: PES vs FIFA
konami is starting to fall behind, sad sad times. there seems to be a power shift. EA is clearly upping their game, konami is lacking in most departments. online sucks too. fifa is getting better, a lot better. for the first time i bought a fifa game in more than ten years. i am having regrets that i exchanged fifa 09 for pes 2009??
Re: PES vs FIFA
Does anyone actually care apart from Konami (sales are good) and EA (sales are always good). All those people who bought either game, I would suggest are very happy with their purchase. The unneccesary adversarial posturing of one thing against another really shows the immaturity of the gamer market. Anyone for LBP v Mario? Lets give the games a couple of months and see how they are doing as the xmas market is where the money is, I am sure both will do well long term unlike many of the games rating 80% plus.
