Though Konami’s football title fails to beat FIFA 09’s exceptional week one performance
For the first time in the series’ history, sales of the new Pro Evolution Soccer have been spearheaded by PS3, which accounted for 58 per cent of the game’s week one performance.
PES 2009 shot straight to the top of the Gfk ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 yesterday, knocking FIFA 09 from first spot after EA’s title saw a drop in sales of 54 per cent.
With the PS2 version of Konami’s title not out until November, PS3 made tremendous headway with the title. In 2007 the PS2 version was the leading week one performer, capturing 42 per cent of sales, with Xbox 360 nabbing 30 per cent and PS3 just 26 per cent. PS3 cleans up this time out though, leaving Xbox 360 with just 40 per cent of week one sales and PC just two per cent.
However, PES 2009 can’t match the debut performance of FIFA 09. Last year, sales on Xbox 360 were more or less neck-and-neck between the two games, but this year sees FIFA 09 outsell PES 2009 by a ratio of 2.66. PES 2009 also fails to match the week one sales of PES 2008.

fake reports
How can they really tell what the actual figures are when most retailers are buying stock from supermarkets so the game is sold twice
Re: fake reports
That's an interesting point, Stu. Though, of course, we'd have to get an idea of market share before we could start formulating judgements on the possible impact.
Re: Re: fake reports
Though as the supermakret prices were basically the same for the ps3 and 360 version you'd expect their relative sales to be the same
Re: Re: Re: Re: fake reports
That's a bit of a naive accusation there, John. If your accusation were true do you not think our story would have been massively different? I'm going to have to hide that I'm afraid.
Re: Re: Re: Re: fake reports
John Jones, im reading this on Internet Explorer, that will explain all the pro 360 guff littering the internet, idiot.
hmm
why not just talk to suppliers of the game and get some rough ideas, 360 version rules, when gears 2 is out ps3 is finished, no more ps3, sorry ha ha
