JAPAN: PSP 3000 enjoys powerful debut

Having released in Japan on October 16th, Sony’s redesigned PSP (

dubbed the 3000

) managed to sell an incredible 141,270 in just its first four days on sale, according to data from Famitsu.

Kotaku reports that when sales of the older models are taken into account, total hardware sales for the handheld reached 155,720 in the period between October 13th and October 19th.

These numbers compare favourably to the 19,873 units sold in the week before. Lifetime sales of the machine in Japan now number 10,357,481.

The PSP 3000 was also launched in the UK last week, but MCV has been told that no official numbers are set to be published – though it is understood that the sales impact was far less pronounced over here.
