Sega mascot beats out Mario and Lara Croft in London Games Festival poll
Sonic The Hedgehog has come out on top in a London Games Festival poll of the most popular games characters of all time.
The spiky blue hedgehog beat out the likes of Super Mario and Lara Croft in the survey of over 500 UK gamers.
The poll voted the UK’s top ten most popular video games characters as follows:
1. Sonic the Hedgehog (24 per cent)
2. Super Mario (21 per cent)
3. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) (16 per cent)
4. Donkey Kong (11 per cent)
5. Pac Man (10 per cent)
6. Link (The Legend of Zelda) (5 per cent)
7. Max Payne (4 per cent)
8. Pikachu (Pokemon) (3 per cent)
9. Niko Belic (Grand Theft Auto series) (2 per cent)
10. Blanka (Street Fighter) (1 per cent)

Those were the days
Thank you MCV for putting up that pic, an image of the days when Sonic was Sonic. That game was not easy and was fantastic in every way.
What Sega has done to Sonic these days is terrible.
WHAT!!??
Where did they find these people?
Pikachu at #8!? Nico Bellic?
And where's Solid Snake? Surely a Final Fantasy character somewhere along the line must have warranted a place? Samus? The Prince of Persia? Daxter? Ratchet / Clank? Even Duke Nukem would've been better than Max Payne...
I suppose I should be grateful Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon didn't make the list...
Re: WHAT!!??
lol 500 UK gamers.......all aged between 12 and 14.
Re: Re: WHAT!!??
If anyone was into the Sega Master System, my favs were Alice (Phantasy Star) and Aaron (Ys). Bomberman would be a better choice than Niko
Re: Re: Re: WHAT!!??
I'm always suspicious of polls like this. Could people vote for any character, or could they only select a preference from a list of, say, ten game characters that had been drawn up beforehand by the poll organisers?
