Fable II hits 89% on Metacritic

Action-RPG scores full marks from Eurogamer; 98% from Variety and 95% from Official Xbox

The reviews for Fable II are in, and according to scores aggregator Metacritic, Peter Molyneux’s masterpiece is doing pretty nicely.

The highly-anticipated title, which is released in the UK this Friday, has earned an average 89 per cent from the reviews, which cover both UK and US press.

Eurogamer is the only media to give the game full marks, acclaiming: “Inclusive and often thought-provoking, this is a daring portrait of a game-world with all the failure cut out, and it's hard not to love a game that loves you so much in return. Fable II will charm you, thrill you, and leave you very, very happy.”

More praise comes from Variety and its 98 per cent score. The movie and entertainment magazine reports: “No interactive world has ever felt quite so alive as Fable 2, where many paths are open, but all choices have consequences. Deep, accessible and endlessly adaptive, it's is a boundary-pushing experience that players will still be exploring long after the hype has faded.”

Elsewhere, IGN UK awards the game 95 per cent, whilst CVG offers 92 per cent and Edge, GameSpy and Kikizo rewards its with 90.

GameSpot gives the title 85 per cent, reporting: “The world is so charming and your choices so profound, that it's easy to look past the game's shortcomings. The punishment for death is pointless and the story carries little weight, but the experience is still immensely rewarding.”

I'm sure all the thousands of people that bought it on Monday/Tuesday from Currys can confirm how good it is.

Yep, can confirm. The official UK xbox forum has just been lit up where people can buy it, and also how good it is. At least ASDA seemed to have learned something since the whole GTA 4 debacle.

MCV could you please perhaps change that image? That is the original collectors edition image which you can no longer purchase after Microsoft announced they are pretty much taking out everything other than the bonus DVD and its depressing :-(

You are clearly one of the PS3 fan group that is going around claiming full of bugs and glitches because everyone else I know especially my USA friends on Live who have the game are loving it and have reported NO issues with the game!

@5

Been playing the game since Tuesday, and I'm sorry, I don't buy this "bugs & glitches" rubbish. The game is great, and i'm not even a huge RPG fan.

Having worked with the Lionhead internal test team in the past i can tell you that they are one of the most experianced and meticulous test teams in the entire industry, the likelyhood of this game being riddled with bugs is quite low.

Also I highly doubt if the game had that many bugs and glitches it would have received such high marks.
Reviewers have to or they should play a game FULLY from beginning to the end then it gets reviewed.

@4: You shouldn't believe everything you read. The internet seems to be lying to you.

From Metacritic:

"Metacritic compiles reviews from respected critics and publications for film, video/dvd, books, music, television and games.

Our unique Metascores show the critical consensus at a glance by taking a weighted average of critic grades."

You can't just go to the metacritic web site and enter an arbitary score for a game. Are you mad? or a 12 Yr old fanboy?

Anyway, LBP has a VERY respectable score of 96.

It's not ALL bad news for Sony.
