Spielberg’s EA team faces the chop

UPDATE: Despite job losses, EA claims second Spielberg title is still in production

Following the news that EA is to cut six per cent of its global work force, rumours are suggesting that the team working on Steven Spielberg’s ultra-realistic next title has been sacked from EA LA.

VG247 claims to have been informed by an EA employee that “almost everyone on the team has gone”. It is not known if the still unnamed title, which has been in development for several years, has been cancelled as a result.

The first fruit of the Spielberg-EA partnership was Wii puzzler Boom Blox. The publisher has previously asserted that the game’s sales were in line with its expectations, though other observers have stated that it radically under-performed despite its strong critical reception.

UPDATE: In an update to its earlier story, VG247 now claims EA has stated that Speilberg's title, codenamed LMNO, is still in production. The publisher would not comment on the rumoured job cuts.
