Nickelodeon seeks new publishing partners

Firm states that it's keen to license out its key franchises

Kids’ IP specialist Nickelodeon has told MCV that it is keen to license out its key franchises to new publishing partners, in order to take its games business to the next level.

The firm currently deals with THQ, Capcom and 2K, which develop and distribute games based on its pre-school brands such as Dora The Explorer and Spongebob.

However, VP of video games, music and special products for Nickelodeon, Arwed-Ralf Grenzbach, said that the firm was keen to work with more companies – but that its current partners would be a tough act to follow.

“We have loyal partnerships with THQ, 2K and Capcom, but we’re also looking for other publishers in order to identify the best companies for certain IP,” he told MCV.

“The most important criteria for any firm we work with is understanding how to translate a Nickelodeon brand into a unique game. Currently, we work with publishers who live and breathe the brands like we do – and we’re looking for that level of passion.

“We’d also need someone with a financial commitment, and the understanding that longevity is needed in order to grow a brand.”

The latest Nickelodeon tie-in – Avatar: The Legend Of Aang – is due for release on PS2, Wii and DS through THQ on October 31st.
