Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge sequels on the way

EA boss John Riccitiello semi-confirms upcoming follow-ups to some of EA’s big new IPs; adds that annual sequels are unlikely

Admittedly, it was a given that titles like Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge were going to get sequels, but EA boss John Riccitiello has in an investor call spoken publicly about the projects for the first time – though he has also insisted that EA will not force an annual sequel model on them.

“As for titles like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge, I think you can absolutely expect those titles to come back in one way, shape or form, but they're not likely to be annual sequels,” he stated.

Riccitiello also spoke of a third outing for Pandemic’s Mercenaries series.

Dead Space entered the UK Charts in sixth spot last week, and currently commands a very respectable 89 per cent on reviews aggregation site Metacritic. Mirror’s Edge is due out in the UK on November 14th and has been heaped with praise in the specialist press.

Riccitiello’s statement came as part of his response to EA’s latest financials, in which it was confirmed that the publisher would be laying off around six per cent of its workforce.

Great game Dead Space....for the first time I played. Now the game won't load on my computer.

Red alert 3 has similar well-known issues, although they have fixed those....honestly what is up with EA atm? Almost every PC game I have bought of theirs has major problems on launch.

Mirrors Edge for me was a great if a slightly broken game. Control
System was so simplistic, it worked for begginers and allowed advanced use aswell. The game was amazing when you were outside vaulting rooftops and leaping frm building to building; but inside areas became cramped and hard to navigate.
Level Design was extraordinary, (apart from indoor chapters, which sadly were more often than open rooftop ones) once again with many different routes for begginers to experts.
Many people have touched on the replay value of this game, and complained the story was to short (which I do agree with) but with the abundace of time trials and speed runs, many will be drawn back to this great and innotive title.
And innotive it certainly god-damn is, for once a company had the balls to do something different. Currently the key to success for real top games atm is mainly a FPS, with big guns, and big explosions, with lots of violence. Mirrors Edge throws that on it's head, and says you know what let's make a first person parkour ( free- running) game that is kept simple and is stylish, elegant and well almost against guns.
I say " almost against guns" because they slow you down; and slowing down "will" kill you. The AI can be frightenly accurate at times. But once your at full speed and mainting that speed, which is the real test, ( timing is absolutly essential) bullets wizz by and hardly hit you.
This game is great yet broken, but we can relax safely in knowing the sequel will be a classic . That is once combat is sorted and storylines extended and inside levels stripped to a bare minimum.

8 out of 10
