Call of Duty gets bookies' nod for Xmas no.1

Though comedy inclusions make a return for the official Paddy Power betting race

Online betting site Paddy Power has released its odds on the race for the coveted Christmas number one game – and has sensibly backed Activision-Blizzard’s upcoming Call of Duty: World at War for the win with odds of 3/1.

Other favourites include EA pair FIFA 09 and Need for Speed, which command odds of 4/1 and 5/1 respectively. Fellow contenders include Microsoft’s Gears of War 2 and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 at 8/1 and LEGO Batman at 14/1.

As usual, however, some curious entries have made it into the listing. The currently Japan-only Wii release of Resident Evil Zero stands out a little awkwardly, whilst the long odds of 40/1 and 20/1 on Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit respectively has got the MCV office talking.

And whilst Resistance 2 creeps in there with odds of 8/1, the exclusion of LittleBigPlanet is certainly a surprise.

Paddy Power’s current odds (as of Nov 4th 16:00):

Little big planet would surely never reach No1. it being PS3 only?

Just a thought.

@ 2

Or they're not prepared to take bets on it as they'd lose to much on it ;)

@1

If it wasnt for the fact that there probably will be another supply shortage of it of some sort, I'd probably have a decent flutter on it myself.

im betting cod5 gets traded in very quickly, alot of fans dont like the step back to ww2, ive played the beta is good, pretty much cod4 back in ww2, but maybe not good enough to keep going as long as cod 4 sold, we are still selling this new and used now !

Well, @6. I agree completely at that, I believe the game is better than COD4 myself but many people have condemned Treyarch for the WW2 setup of the new game. Personally I think GOW2 will make top sales, I'm impressed that they have managed to improve on the previous game hardly any games companies manage this. My only other bet on a top release would be Left4Dead. Zombies always end up drawing in the sales.
