Nintendo boss reveals why the Wii is the only next-gen console whose RRP has not been reduced

Nintendo’s global president Saturo Iwata has revealed why the Wii is the only current console not to receive a price drop – he doesn’t like them.

Kotaku translated an interview with Touch-DS, in which the leading gaming icon stated: “This is my personal thinking, but when the model's price-tag drops over time, manufacturers are telling consumers it's better to wait, and I've always thought that was a mistake..."

The machine is still selling very well and they are making a nice profit on each machine.
As soon as the machine sales start to slow we shall see a price drop of some sort, at least I would hope so as the machine is over-priced.

The 360's recent price cut hardly seems to be affecting Wii sales at any rate. Is that because Nintendo has more "casual" software on the shelves I wonder?

Probably true mate. I think the price drop and NXE facelift will take a long time for "casual" peeps to realise that MS are actually targetting them. Also, there are no high profile casaul games on their list. By the time people realise this, it will be too late. Most people into the casual gaming are 25+, "grew up" with the Nintendo stable in their youth and have or will buy a Wii.

Nintendo have really niched themselves though, and I reckon next year they will have to drop the price as most of the people who are gonna buy one wil have one already. Everyones so focused on what Sony's next move is to bring themselves back up, Im more curious what Nintendo's strategy is, as alot of it seems extremely short-term.
