PSP is Reevoo’s top gaming pick

Xbox 360 comes second, according to consumer advice group; PS3 languishes in seventh place

Consumer advice portal Reevoo has turned its attentions to the games market – and it has chosen the PSP Slim & Lite as the best choice for gamers this Christmas.

The website granted Sony’s handheld an impressive 9.5/10, praising it for the fact it “looks cool”, is easy to set up, is not too big and has a bright, clear screen. It was criticised, however, for the cost of the games, the lack of extras out of the box, the poor sound quality and, strangely, how “addictive” it can be.

The site chose the Xbox 360 as its second top pick, owing mainly to the fact that it can be bought for as little as £120. Nintendo’s Wii and DS Lite came third and fourth respectively, with Sony’s original ‘fat’ PSP claiming fifth.

PS3 was seventh in the rankings having come under criticism for its high price. The site said of the machine: “Most people rate the PS3 as relatively poor value for money.”

Value for money?

That last comment is a bit ironic really, because the PS3 is actually pretty good value for money when you consider what's actually in the box.

But it is *expensive* when compared to the competition in the console market and I do agree that's something Sony will have to address in the new year.

Yeah, It's only good value for money if your after a Blu-ray player aswell as a console, But purely for gaming, people are going to look elsewhere I'm afriaid.

"pretty good value for money when you consider what's actually in the box"

If the box contained a sugar-cube-sized block of weapons-grade plutonium (current market price $4000 a gram) and cost £1200, that'd be awesome value. But only if you wanted some weapons-grade plutonium.

The XBOX 360 is a value, but only if you don't want to buy a HDD, wifi adapter, headset and a subscription to LIVE, not to mention not wanting peace of mind about your console breaking down on you. I guess people are willing to buy cheap, even if it comes at the cost of having a horribly-designed, unreliable piece of hardware.

@ Aaron:

My Nov. 2006 Xbox works fine and I gladly pay about $35/year for Live. It's worth it to me. And I believe headsets still come bundled with the system (all 3 of my consoles have come with them).

The Xbox isn't as bad as you wish it was. I'm not a SONY hater, either; I had money to burn a couple months ago and actually tried to convince myself to buy a PS3. Unless you're after a nice Blu-Ray player, there is no compelling reason for a 360 owner to drop $400 on a PS3. I spent my money on a SONY Cybershot T700 digital camera instead.

I'm not a 360 hater, i'm just speaking the truth. And you guys quoted the lowest possible price point for the 360, which doesn't include any of those peripherals you listed.

Funny how people who don't want to bother with buying the PS3 will come up with excuses like "it only has one good game, blah blah blah" and then get on others when they try to defend the value of the PS3. If that's how you want to look at it, then really the only good reason to own a 360 is for Gears of War and (maybe) Halo 3, seeing as how we're comparing big franchises for the sake of a shallow argument.

Pathetic, really.

I wanted to enter the digital age of gaming, with HD tech, and to me the PS3 offered me just that. I bought an Elite, but only because it matches my entertainment area (otherwise I would have opted for the less pricey SKU).

You get a lot of great tech. for 399. Whether or not it has the games you like is a different story, because that's all preference. Then again, do you guys really care about any of that in the first place?

Hey guys, you're missing the point
I love my PSP and think you should all get one.
Watching films in the bath rocks!!
I have Fifa thumb for the first time ever due to my psp................and it has all my fave music on it.
Regardless of whether you are an Xbox 360 or a PS3 fan, you should still get a psp.
A nice set of headphones and you really can get lost in your own world........I would feel lost without mine, so praise where praise is due for a great bit of kit.
God of war is awesome as well, not too many others games but there's more to it than that!!

Well no, you're wrong actually. You are thinking of the £99 console.
The price quoted in the above article is the £120 console. Which comes with the 60GB HDD, Headset, a free 3 months Xbox Live card (at least my mates did). And (normally) 1 free game- at least (depends on the bundle and where you buy it).
Yeah you have to buy the WiFi adapter - but the fact is that a wired connection is a far superior choice for stability online and speed.
Also Xbox Live service is well worth the money for the full online experience. But if you really don't want to pay you don't have to - you can still download demos and updates without paying for Gold.
And while 360's are more unstable than PS3s and Wiis - they have improved greatly over the last couple of years, and Microsoft has a pretty decent 3 year warranty and will replace broken consoles free of charge.
