Capcom's sandbox outing outsells Sony's LittleBigPlanet by a ratio of three to one
Following recent unsubstantiated day one sales claims from VGChartz, official Media Create figures have shown a convincing week one sales victory for Grand Theft Auto IV following its release in Japan.
The title, which is published by Capcom in Japan, shifted 133,000 units on PS3 and 34,000 on Xbox 360 in the week ending November 2nd. Sony’s LittleBigPlanet, in contrast, shifted 52,000 copies.
In fact, Sony’s game was also unable to beat Square Enix’s DS RPG Valkyrie Profile.
Other top performers included DS outing Pokemon Platinum and Nintendo’s Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode.

Bah
In the run up to LBP's release, I have seen one advert on tele for a game with strong emphasis or mention of the PS3. That was for Smackdown or some other crappy Wrestling game. Nothing at all for LBP. By contrast, I have seen around 10 ads for games/the xbox brand and countless DS/Nintendo adverts.
I know it's probably different in Japan, but how can LBP do as well as it deserves without a decent advertising push? People that like men in spandex will know when a new wrestling game is out, but the general public might not know that (arguably) the best reason to own a PS3 is here and simple in-store POS might put the game across as "for kids."
Re:
According to this PS3 outsold the 360 & the Wii. Just shows they'll buy your console if you have the right games people want to buy.

Re: Re:
I cant believe that GTAIV has done the figures it has in Japan.
They've never cared for that franchise so this is a real surprise.
XBOX360 outselling PS3 for a whole month and GTAIV actually selling?!
Things really are changing over there.
Either that or Famitsu has a much bigger influence on sales than I originally thought....
Good news for LBP...
In recent years games have taken the majority of sales through pre-orders and 1st week purchases, but what this causes is a sudden drop in purchases after the initial release.
LBP will see sales figures grow overtime as it becomes popular through word-of-mouth. Expensive marketing campaigns are not always needed for the game to be sucessful.
Re: Re:
Sony need to push harder advertising everywhere in the world. Although the PS3 outsold both the Wii and 360 last week in Japan, it fell short in Europe and the US.
I've seen one advert for LittleBigPlanet, and it was at 1am in the morning. I just get the impression from Sony that they think the console and games will sell themselves, But It doesn't work like that anymore, the competition out there is much greater than the PS1/PS2 days, Maybe I'm looking into it too much, But I feel Sony would do themselves a world of good if they pushed a huge marketing campaign towards games like LBP and Features like Blu-Ray.
But it's still early stages of the PS3 I guess....?
Re: Re: Re:
The charts don't show how many of the ps3 consoles sold were little big planet bundles. Any copies of little big planet sold as part of the bundle pack won't appear in the games chart - the fact that the reports are saying the ps3 is the biggest seller that week suggests that there are a lot of little big planet sales unaccounted for.
Re: Re: Re: Re:
Yeah that would say about 20,000 COULD have been LBP bundles. It's still not bringing it anywhere near GTA.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
"The charts don't show how many of the ps3 consoles sold were little big planet bundles"
If this is the case then why does Wii Sports constantly appear in the charts?
