Sega Mega Drive Collection goes HD

Another re-packaging of the publisher’s cherished 16bit franchises is on the way, this time in 720p

Sega has announced that it is to release a 720p enabled 16bit collection entitled Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on Xbox 360 and PS3 early next year.

Whether or not this is the rumoured Sonic Collection hinted at in September is unclear. Sonic is included, however, in both his first, second and third outings. Other titles on the disc include Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier and Streets of Rage (1, 2 and 3).

The press release says the game is 720p compatible, though it’s unclear whether the titles have been reworked or if the original output is simply being upscaled.

Sega’s European marketing director Gary Knight stated: “Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is a must-have for any Sega enthusiast. Fans will get a chance to relive fond memories from these classic games in HD format.”

I hope these are reworked, it's not a massive task to rework the artwork for a MD game...

If it is, it will be worth buying for SOR 1, 2 & 3... here's hoping.
