Nintendo confirms R4 DSi incompatibility

Infamous piracy device definitely does not work with new DSi

Nintendo has confirmed to MCV that today's reports claiming that SD-card based piracy hardware the R4 will not work with the upcoming DSi are correct.

The platform holder was not able to confirm whether this is a deliberate feature of the newly redesigned handheld. However, judging by recent history it’s not unreasonable to presume this is the case.

As commentators on our earlier story reveal, the R4 is still easily available on Amazon.co.uk, despite calls from the trade to ban its sale in the UK.

Great News?

This is great news in as much as it will help the industry gain the sales for its products rather than them being stolen.

However, I am slightly nervous about the machine having a built in SD card port, how long until that is exploited?

Also, the success of DSi itself is not guaranteed, are people really convince its significantly different from a DS to justify consumers upgrading?

i think some of the ds success is due to the r4ds card. until then a ds never intrested me? and to be honest after one month of playin the ds, i no longer play it.

lol thats a proof of concept it doesn't mean its been hacked.

the ps3 has had countless hello world apps but nothing else.

please get ur facts straight before shouting its been hacked to the world.

but to be honest its certainly not a good start.

Cleaver move, maybe Nintendo came up with a new handheld just to stop the massive piracy with the R4?

Update your software, because the new DSi is diferent type of core software, because it is quicker the main processor.
But if you upgrade software it will work, at least on mine it did.

If you are sucessfully using a dsi and an R4 chip then the newest download from nintendo will prevent the chip from working after the download is installed. I can presume that Nintendo are learning and learning fast!

It looks like we may have been a bit too quick to dismiss the R4i Gold Edition team, I just bought an R4i Gold from ukadapters and it works perfectly.

I have two R4 dsi cards and both have stopped working since a software download from nintendo. If anybody knows of a site with a download patch or fix then let me know. My kids are going nuts at me.
