Atari snaps up Ghostbusters game

Ex-Vivendi title joins Riddick on Atari roster

Atari has confirmed the capture of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, a week after securing the publishing rights to The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena.

Hollywood actor Dan Aykroyd reported that Atari would publish Ghostbusters last month, and the game will arrive next year on PC, PS3, PS2, DS, Wii and Xbox 360 to coincide with the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

“Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari’s global line-up in 2009,” said Infogrames president Phil Harrison. “The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There’s no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack.”

Vice president of licensing-hardlines for Sony Pictures Consumer products Mark Caplan added: “We're thrilled to partner with Atari on Ghostbusters: The Video Game. As one of our studios’ most valued film franchises, we wanted to develop a video game that would be exciting for both new and old fans and with Atari we have a publisher that fully understands Ghostbusters, and is committed to producing engaging entertainment that fans will thoroughly enjoy.”

Yesterday, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said that the firm ‘de-emphasised’ certain Vivendi titles due to a ‘less than tolerant’ retail environment.

Nice to see that Atari has the cahones to bring this title through to market.
This and the new Aliens titles will be top of my wish list for eighties movie-game revivals that we cant wait to get our hands on.
