Though the new DSi bosses the market following its Far Eastern debut
After lagging behind Microsoft’s rejuvenated Xbox 360 for a surprising six weeks in the Japanese hardware charts, Sony’s PS3 has finally reversed the tide by outpacing Microsoft’s machine for the week ending November 2nd.
Media Create figures show that PS3 shifted a vastly improved 39,587 units last week, far ahead of Microsoft’s 6,119 machines. Its success can be attributed to the bumper performances of Capcom’s GTA IV and Sony’s own LittleBigPlanet.
However, it was the newly released Nintendo DSi that wins out, with the machine selling 171,952 units in its first week on sale. PSP ranked second with still strong sales of 50,358.
Fourth was the Nintendo Wii, which shifted 23,123 units, with the now old-school DS Lite selling 16,360. The PS2 manages to push Xbox 360 into last position this week, selling 6,714 consoles.

Yup..
Kind of predictable the PS3 would pick up again with LBP. But it's a good turn around for Sony, But in Europe and the US they are slacked behind this week . The DSi, well no one is going to come anywhere near that in Japan for awhile.
Re: Yup..
Headline could have been PS3 outsells Wii - which is far more impressive
New SKU increased sales more than new games
"Its success can be attributed to the bumper performances of Capcom’s GTA IV and Sony’s own LittleBigPlanet."
It was more to do with the 80Gb model being released with GT5:prologue Spec 3 bundled for free. This is also why sales of the 40Gb PS3 sales dropped after the 80Gb was announced for Japan.
Re: New SKU increased sales more than new games
Daeko is correct. The last 3-4 weeks of the 360 outselling the PS3 were not due to the 360 being a favorite (despite 2 RPG exclusives from Square and a huge price dump on the hardware), but rather to the wait for the 2 new 80Gb PS3 SKUs. Another PS3 SKU is expected for November (with PES 2009 I think), and WKC will give The Last Remnant (only a timed exclusive for the 360) a run for its money in Decembre.
Of course, In march 2009, all of this will be moot and forgotten for a good reason, the PS3 tide starting for good in Japan (hint: Blu Ray demo of a famous gaming franchise being released in Japan).
