Marketing analyst claims that internet-based casual gaming will usurp the console as the ‘platform’ of choice
Digital marketing site ClickZ has made a bold claim about the future of gaming by claiming that the games console is heading to extinction thanks to the rise of casual gaming.
The site reads: “We are watching the icon of gaming, the console, quickly and ungraciously bow to the internet. As difficult as it may be to lose our cultural icon of game play, we must. The consoles are facing competition and extinction."

What a Load Of Crap
What a load of crap
It's a bit like saying...
That the free pieces of sample pastie they give you at Greggs will eventually bring down the demise of their £1.09 steak bake.
Seriously - some of these market analysts need to take their head out of a spreadsheet and go and walk into GAME and queue.
Not only would they see that demand has never been higher at high street level - they'd also be able to predict the **** hitting the fan after christmas when it's time to pay for the games that are being given away.
Michael Pachter - yes, you. You'll be first against the wall come the revolution.
Re: It's a bit like saying...
Now I'm not going to agree with this article or disagree, but in my office of 5 people, we have 2 x PC owners, 1 x 360 owner and 1 x Wii owner and a non gamer, the Wii owner and one PC owner spend their time on Facebook playing Tetris. The 360 owner and a PC owner spend their lunch times playing online pool.
Casual internet gaming is growing, not sure it will kill of the console, but like the article the other week about the decline of PC gaming, consoles will I think need to accept a small lose of market share.
Gaming consoles dieing
This will not happen. Too many people play on the consoles for that to happen. Many also play with the internet games, but I can almost guarantee that most of those players have or had an Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Gamecube, or even a WII the day this happens, there will be an uproar.

As satisfying a crafty **** is, it'll never replace full sex for kicks.

@ Koti - loving the Gregs analogy!
And not forgetting their 2 for £1.50 deal. Me and the Mrs are all over that sheat. Surprisingly we're not fat either. Yet.
Re: Steak Bake.
Umm...
I'm surprised no-one else has asked, but who are ClickZ and why should I care what they have to say?
I've never heard of them.
Ben - I'm surprised at you - you're usually so on point!

I agree with Martyn, not for the first time.. Its good for the game virgins to have a fiddle, then when they get to play propper games, they have a grasp of what its about. long live cas gaming.. It will bring more folks to our world.. I get more worried about supermarkets slashing prices than this..
