Xbox is a ‘key Microsoft Moment’

Time magazine rates the firm’s first step into gaming as a key moment in Microsoft’s history

Time magazine has included the launch of the original Xbox as a key 'Microsoft Moment'.

In part of a feature the influential magazine ran to mark the 25th anniversary of the Windows operating system, it rated the launch of the Xbox as a key moment in the firm’s history:

“By the [2001] holiday shopping season, gamers all over America wanted them, launching a three-way battle for video-game dominance between the Xbox, Sony’s PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo GameCube... Microsoft had a $500 million marketing budget for the game platform, which also contained a hard drive and Internet connectivity.

“The Xbox was more powerful and more expensive — not to mention heavier — than the PlayStation 2, but lacked Sony’s stable of popular games — it didn’t take off as a platform until the stunning success of Halo, a mankind-vs-aliens space opera that helped redefine the first-person shooter genre.”

sorry this is slightly off topic but i am so angry,
Gem call us to tell us about the bundle deal for xmas extra 360 pad, lego indy+kung fu panda, viva pinata, £19.50+vat
and guess what Woolworths and Argos both giving these away free !!! how can i complete i cant loose £22.91 on every xbox i sell, another stab in the back for indies, i know large stores can do what they want but where is the support, why not exclussive deals for indies, i would buy more stock if this was the case, I do hope wooloworths goes out of business as they are basically putting me out of business, there is not a single way we can compete on price, i like competition but this is just insane, we cant sell anything at a loss, we are making £2 on a new release as it is and we are still £2 more expensive than the chains, i think the distributors will end up with job losses soon as we wont even restock with them now as its cheaper in supermarkets, only a fool would restock when its £10 cheaper elsewhere, same as why would a customer buy a game thats more expensive just to support a local business, ive had it with this industry.
