Leading platform holder Nintendo is understandably quite smug about its strong performance in the North American market in October, with its hardware victory being joined by a strong software sales offering.

Combined sales of Wii and DS reached 1.29 million for the month, with Wii shifting 803,210 units and the DS 491,176. This brings lifetime US sales of each machine to 13.35 million and 23.02 million respectively.

The firm’s hardware sales were 25.7 per cent on the same month last year and accounted for a huge 59.3 per cent of the industry’s total hardware sales for the month.

Leading exercise title Wii Fit sold just under half a million copies in October, bringing lifetime US sales to over 2.83 million.

“Nintendo provides consumers with the best value not only among video games, but also among most entertainment options,” Nintendo of America’s smiley executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway stated. “Nintendo also provides an incomparable range of experiences that everyone can enjoy, whether you’ve been playing for years or are just getting into video games.”
