Nintendo: ‘Third parties don’t get Wii’

US boss Fils-Aime also notes that console is ‘nowhere near' ready for price cut

Nintendo US boss Reggie Fils-Aime has asserted that the majority of third-party publishers “don’t get” Wii – and aren’t taking full advantage of the console.

And in a frank discussion with Forbes, Fils-Aime also said that Nintendo was “nowhere near” the point of cutting the Wii’s price.

"I will be able to say our licensees 'get it' when their very best content is on our platform," he said. "And with very few exceptions today, that's not the case."

He also ruled out the possibility of retailers having enough Wii Fit stock to meet demand this Christmas, adding:

"With Wii hardware, I think we've got a good shot at meeting demand during the holidays. With Wii Fit, I know we'll fall short."

And on a potential price cut, he commented:

"At some point, it will be time to adjust the [price], but we're nowhere near that point now."

the wii cant really be judged like a normal console, as its a family console, with only a cd rom in the console your kind of limited to what you can develop i would have thought, and the look of the games isnt the most important on wii, its more about the interaction, so maybe this is the problem, everyone i know only gets the wii out when they come back from the pub, only game to sit down and play was zelda, all other are party games really, no hardcore games or gamers using the wii, just from my experience that is,

It's true, the Wii install base is higher than 360 (as is my understanding) but how many people that own a wii actually play it on a regular basis... Mine's sitting next to my TV collecting dust... I know I'm not the only one.

when wii was the cheapest home console on the market and with Nintendos extensive Tv advertsing and working with alot of celeb endorsements, it just exploded, but from what i notice, these wii owners dont buy games like 360, ps3, or even ps2 users do, there really isnt that rush for a new release on the wii, and there are so many wii games out there now, all trying to build on the success of other wii games. But i dont think you will have the success on wii as you do from titles like Cod5 and Fallout3, Fable 2 etc, even the few mutliplatform games dont seem to do that well on wii, aside from guitar hero. Its just party games like Mario kart, Olympics, and mini games, novelty games like wii fit, we have had plenty of these traded in when people are bored of it.
