PS3 takes 51% of all Tomb Raider: Underworld sales

Xbox 360 takes a third of sales on new Eidos title

Fifty-one per cent of all sales of Eidos' Tomb Raider: Anniversary were on PlayStation 3, GFK-ChartTrack has confirmed.

The title entered this week's GFK-ChartTrack/ELSPA All Formats Top 40 at No.9, outselling the launch of last year’s original Tomb Raider remake (Tomb Raider: Anniversary) by 6,700 units.

The new Tomb Raider recorded 34 per cent of all sales on Xbox 360, with the remainder on Wii, PC and DS.

Wii version is fatally broken

The Wii version has a critical progression bug according to the Eidos forums. Completing a particular puzzle in a certain order means that a switch does not appear preventing any further progress. Good QA there.

this reflects are sales over this weekend, tomb raider and COD5 has sold more on ps3, but Last Remnant did very for 360 also, alot of rpg fans being looked after on the xbox now, maybe due to micosofts desire to crack japan.

This game is really competing with every game that has come out this xmas rather than just itself. You could argue that the 360 has had more choice of releases so the competition is more fierce dropping its share in many titles that didn't top people's wanted lists.

whereas the 360 had massive console exclusives Left4dead, fable2, Banjo and GOW2 in the last few weeks, the ps3 hasn't so it's no surprise that's it's sold less on the 360.

I'm surprised the game is selling that well considering it's just another run of the mill Tomb Raider game.

I'll tell you what this is indicative of:

People who buy Playstations because of the brand and rather than the product - they're entrenched in the past and are seeking the fis they had when they bought their original Playstation and and Tombraider over a decade ago.

They drive Fords because their dad drove a Ford and they go on holiday to Rhyl and Blackpool.

They probably still think smoking is a cool thing to do and wear Levi's because 'they're the best'.

Nothing wrong with brand loyalty mind but it can be annoying when they're buying a PS3 for little 'Annie' - who wanted a Wii instead.

DLC

Obviously the PS3 community doesnt care about the lack of any DLC of which of course the 360 users get...

The fact that Tomb Raider comes with exclusive DLC on 360 yet still outsells by a considerable margin on PS3 I think paints a rather worrying picture for MS as regards exclusive (paid for) DLC.
It also makes the franchise look very Playstation orientated still.
