Low Layton stock levels sparks silly pricing

Second hand copies of puzzle title changes hands for £60

Professor Layton and the Curious Village has gone missing from store shelves as Nintendo struggle to supply the sensational demand for its DS hit.

The game has sold out online at GAME, HMV, Gameplay, Zavvi and Shopto and stock is limited on the High Street.

Consumers are now selling their copies through Amazon Marketplace for up to £60 – double the game's recommended retail price. Copies of the title are also available through Play and Trade for around £50.

The critically acclaimed DS game was released on November 7th, charting in sixth place.

A spokesperson for Nintendo said it was doing 'all we can' to satisfy demand.

No one could have guessed that a title like this would have sold so well.
Not even Nintendo could have guessed. They've upped production of the Wii 30% AGAIN just to try and cope, and everyone still says it's not good enough.
The only people who will win with the Professor Layton game are the money grubbing indies who'll sell the game on ebay for twice the price.
And you call Nintendo bad, indies are the worst of the worst.

So what the hell are you moaning about then?

Personally I abhore the internet hardguys who hide behind their keyboards on these forums.

Sure, say what you want but ffs - at least have the balls to admit who you are.

As for shortages - love 'em, thanks Ninendo - I'd sooner have a shortage of Wiis driving prices up than a 100 PS3 stuck on myself from launch that I couldn't shift.

Remind me again which hardware company makes a profit.

Mint endo - you should be ashamed.

ouch I bet they never saw that coming considering it hit 6th in the charts. well these things kind of just happen. but after the whole wii and DS being out of stock so much it no wonder Nintendo are getting killed again

Whats more annoying is these roadshows popping up at shopping centres advertising/demo things like Wii Fit and Professor Layton which they know full well high street stores are struggling to keep up for demand, my store included.

yeah this is a big suprise we havent had any ds title with such interest for a long time, as everyone uses R4 cards, i totally agree with Number 1, Nintnedo do it every year, with hardware and software, i saw Amazon sellers selling wii fit for £130, and people are paying it, same with layton, Nintendo may be the lead platform, but they are crap at restock and covering their demand, to be honest i dont blame retailers doing this, as there is little profit in games now, you have to make what you can where you can.
We have around 20 deposits on this game, and no supplier can give you a date for restock

Let me guess - they didn't produce enough Prof Laytons because they had yet another urgently important batch of Brain Training to manufacture?

Trying to get hold of this for my GF for xmas. I recieved an email from GAME saying the had prof layton game in stock. Clicked on to their site and what do I find. The game bundled with any one of about 3 different variations of brain training all which have been out ages and I'm guessing a lot of gamers will all ready own. pair that with a price of nearly £50 I thought better of GAME than this to take advantage of shortages in this way. I hope the credit crunch bites them in the arse for 2009
