Landmark outlet to open in Sheffield this Friday; goodie bag for first 50 customers
Specialist retail chain Gamestation has announced it will open its 250th store in Meadowhall, Sheffield on Friday November 28th.
The fastest growing games retailer will kick off proceedings on Thursday with an exclusive preview party, before the store opens to the public at 9am on Friday.
The first 50 customers through the door will be presented with a goodie bag, and will be joined by Mario and Sonic.
The firm is also planning a full launch weekend, with ‘spectacular’ promotions, the chance to win £100 of gift vouchers, and a ‘Blender’ contest run in conjunction with the local Hallam FM. In the contest people will be challenged to drink unusual cocktails including octopus, chilli and custard.
“Meadowhall is the perfect location for our 250th store due to its huge footfall and catchment area,” said Gamestation MD Martyn Gibbs. “This opening really is a landmark for us and proves that Gamestation continues to be the UK’s fastest growing games retailer – a success we plan to drive forward into 2009.”

A little insensitive...
On the day Woolworths is going pear shaped and lots of people will loose their jobs this story seems a little tactless

Get a grip of yourself.
Gamestation are clearly bucking the trend.
and good luck to them.
buisness is buisness.
Re: A little insensitive...
I understand the reason for your comment but this is a new store opening. Its good to see at least one UK retailer having faith in the future and expanding their business. This recession will be painful for many but it will come to an end and it is those who invest now who will reap the rewards in a few years time.
Re: A little insensitive...
News has no opinions, news is news. Do you write into newspapers that have new born baby congratulations messages and obituaries in the same paper and complain due to it being insensative to the mourners about celebrating life? Don't be stupid, i live in Sheffield and i now know about an event, something i may attend to.
News has no opinions, news has no moral grounds. News is a relay of information don't be trying to say news is tactless.
Re: A little insensitive...
Not really, just shows WHY Woolworths failed - it didn't specialise in anything, it didn't have staff with a much (if any) product knowledge, it didn't lose stores that we're performing badly....
Specialist chains and indies embraced trade ins, used, selling related merchandise like figures and suchlike to survive and grow their business and give key points of difference against the supermarkets.
Don't get me wrong, Woolworths gave me my first job in their entertainment section the week before PS2 launched in the UK, and I had no retail experience, I'm now part of the management of another specialist chain, but looking back so much was done wrong or badly.
Hopefully at least some staff will get to keep their jobs or some kind of compensation as the ones I knew were all great, it was always the highest levels which were clueless as to the realities instore.
Re: A little insensitive...
can't all be the senseitive type!!
if we were nobody would ever say anything, why because it would always offend someone.
it's a landmark for a great british retailer and it should make the news!
Re: A little insensitive...
Very unfortunate what's happening at Woolworths but to say this story is tactless is a bit off the mark.
At the end of the day this is industry news and good or bad it derserves to be published and I assume people want to know about it.
Are you saying that only bad news should be published. In this testing economic climate news of this nature gives people a lift and shows that it's not all doom and gloom not to mention the jobs created as a result of this.
I hope that there is a last minute repreieve of some kind for Woolworths and people get to keep their jobs but good news should not be frowned upon.
