Theo Paphitis in for Woolies?

Bids also reportedly arrive from company's majority shareholder and retail boss

Dragon's Den star Theo Paphitis is reportedly among a number of potential buyers ready to buy chunks of Woolworths.

Several meetings have taken place between interested parties and Woolworths' administrators, Deloitte, since the retailer went into administration last week.

Pahpitis is thought to be interested in a number of Woolworths’ previously profitable stores. He made his name reviving ailing retail chains Rymans and La Senza.

According to Marketing Week, Tesco and Waitrose are also thought to be among potential bidders and are believed to interested in buying some outlets.

Woolworths’ majority shareholder, Ardeshir Naghshineh – the man who helped ensure the bid from ‘rescue specialists’ Hilco fell through – is believed to be making plans to make a bid for the whole group including distribution arm EUK and 2Entertain, a joint venture with the BBC.

Tony Page, who runs Woolworths' retail stores division is believed to be mounting a bid with other members of the management team from the firm’s retail division.

Deloitte is compiling a shortlist of bidders and says that the chain’s 30,000 staff should keep their jobs until at least Christmas.

is it really worth buying?

with digital distribution not far away why would anyone want to have that many stores selling music and videogames?

always thought Theo seemed a nice guy maybe he could rescue some of the jobs at risk.

he should buy the stores that have the best high street position for his other brands

I hope to god Tony Page's "management" team aren't successful in their bid. It's the upper management's poor decisions that have resulted in the downfall of Woolies.
I'm rooting for Theo. Woolies isn't a load of pap, there is a lot of potential, it's just been managed badly.

How much of his children's inheritance is this deal going to take, but then I suppose that it'll make Mrs P happy, and what a great dealmaker for Dragons Den.
"What can you bring to the table for this product Theo?" "We can sell them in Woolies!"

Right. Let me tell you where I'm at.

I've listened to all the moaning and the excuses, I've taken a look at your products and quite frankly Mrs P wouldn't buy her Aunty fifth removed anything from your store.

I've also taken a look and your figures and they don't add up - Have you been run by a clown for the last god knows how many years - any fool knows that you buy something for a pound add on your margin and sell it at a profit. From what you've told me, you've been doing it the other way around.

Anyway - I like your style, your stores intrigue me and I think I can bring something to the table.

So here's the deal - you want £380 million for a 100% stake, right? I'll give you 50p - and do you a deal with some underwear and stationary.

And think yourself lucky.
