JAPAN: DSi sells half a million

Nintendo’s third iteration of its popular handheld shifts 535,000 units in its first month on the shelves

Though European gamers still have no idea when Nintendo’s third generation DS handheld will arrive on continental soil, the DSi has enjoyed a great start in Japan with a solid first month’s sales.

Figures from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain show that the DSi sold 535,379 units in its first month on sale, just fractionally behind the month one sales of the DS Lite, which in its day managed sales of around 550,000.

Total sales for the machine in the territory, including numbers for the original DS, DS Lite and DSi, now stand at 24,239,590.

Though it lacks backwards GBA-DS connectivity, the camera and SD slot makes up for it. Some people think this is a worthwhile change to kepp it slimmer, but do you enjoy not being able to play Guitar Hero, and other GBA games? Well, I hope other people enjoy the camera and SD card. I am on neither sides. I didn't play Guitar Hero much, and I think the Camera was a good app added, though it's not a high quality camera. If you wdant good pic, just get a real camera, because this is for fun!
