An R4-like device that is compatible with Nintendo’s new handheld emerges
A device that allows gamers to play downloadable DS titles has been released for Nintendo’s DSi.
Entitled the Acekard 2i, the new accessory allows the storing of data on a MicroSD card, and is fully compatible with the DSi’s features.
Nintendo revealed to MCV last month that the R4 was incompatible with DSi, following calls from the trade to ban the flashcard in the UK.
Leading publishers and retailers told MCV in July that DS software sales were being seriously affected by R4 cards, prompting SimplyGames.com to pull the device from its website. However, the R4 is still freely available on eBay and Amazon Marketplace.

B@astards
Wishful thinking but here's hoping Amazon ban this from their Marketplace.
Re: B@astards
It was a good idea by Nintendo to release it in Japan first, so it could be sold everywhere else already cracked on release day.

And then Nintendo fixes all the hacks we come up with, before the worldwide releases. They used Japan as a test area, whether intentionally or not, and they'll be getting information on how to beef up security on the DSI.
Issue for the homebrew
Well once nintendo fixes the loopholes R4i has abused they don't have to release a new console. Just an update. The DSi's OS can be updated via internet from the settings menu so we may be looking at a similar battle between the hackers and Nintendo with the Twilight Hack. (Which won't work with Wii's 4.0 update)
actually
the twilight hack does work for 4.0 they recently released a version compatible with the 4 line of firmware. no matter what nintendo, or any game developer, does they wont keep homebrew down.
inferior dsi
why would anyone update from the ds to the inferior DSi if it can't play the R4. There is no reason to go out and buy it unless hackers
can develop a new flash card for the DSi, otherwise you will just be spending money on a new game each time.
