Microsoft: We need another Crackdown

Major Nelson hints at sequel to critically acclaimed open world shooter

A sequel to 2007’s much loved open world shooter Crackdown could be in the pipeline, according to Microsoft’s Major Nelson.

Speaking on his latest Major Nelson podcast, Xbox Live’s director of programming Larry Hryb told Microsoft Games Studios head Phil Spencer: “I’m here to tell you on behalf of the community, I want ¬– we need – another Crackdown. That’s all I’m going to say, so you don’t have to confirm or deny anything. I’m just saying we want it”.

“Yes, Crackdown’s one of my favourites. I’ll leave it at that,” Spencer replied.

According to videogaming247’s report on the comments, developer Realtime Worlds studio head Colin Macdonald told the site this summer that a sequel to Crackdown never appeared because “the numbers just didn’t add up”, although assured fans the studio was open to the possibility of a second game.

“I don’t think the door’s closed,” he told the site. “Obviously, right now we’re tied up with APB and everything else, but hopefully in the future we’ll have the resource and something can be worked out with Microsoft.”

Every sandbox game I play is held up against Crackdown. Why? because it was fun to play. It was fun to level up. I remember it came out at the same time as Spider man and the Crack Down Agent flew around the city way better than Spider Man...lol

Totally agree!
Crackdown was one of the best (and underrated) games of the year! Really looking forward to this!

Agreed - if a sequel were to be announced it would instantly become my most anticipated game.

Easily the best game this gen, it was fun, it was open it was co-op. I remember going back to Dead Rising afterwards and couldn't simply because Crackdown was that much fun in much the way DR should have been and encouraged taking risks - it was that good it made other games seem broken.

Depends who owns the licence. If Realtime Worlds, it won't be out until late 2010 at the earliest, which isn't worth doing - but if MS has it - as it should if its lawyers are any good - it will already be in development.

I completely agree.

For me, Crackdown is the best super hero game ever made. Well, the only one I've ever felt truly super-human in anyway! Great fun, and makes you wonder why a licensed super hero game couldn't be this good! (Having to spend £x,xxx, xxx on the license isn't an excuse!)
