RETAIL SURVEY: High Street upbeat for 2009

Nintendo, Ubisoft and Microsoft hailed in MCV Retail Survey 2008

UK games retail will overcome economic pressure in 2009 and enjoy another profitable 12 months, according to this year’s MCV Retail Survey.

The survey features responses from a wide variety of UK retail store managers from the likes of GAME, Blockbuster, Gamestation, HMV, and a range of independent stores.

86 per cent of those surveyed insisted they were confident about their business in 2009, with only four per cent admitting to being concerned over the future.

The economic climate was only voted by 13 per cent as the biggest threat to games retail in 2009, with most managers citing aggressive price cutting from the supermarkets as the biggest danger facing the sector.

This year’s survey also hailed Microsoft, Ubisoft, Nintendo, A4T, Mad Catz, and Centresoft for their quality of service and impressive games line-up. Whilst 58 per cent of those surveyed expect their Christmas takings to grow year-on-year.
