New DS title works with pedometers to encourage healthy walking routines

Nintendo has announced it will release game in 2009 designed to help encourage people to develop and maintain a walking routine as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Entitled Walk with me! Do you know your walking routine?, the DS game will come with two specially designed pedometers to measure the user’s steps, both per minute and per day.

These pedometers, called Activity Meters, fit into bags and pockets as gamers walk and will measure their activity throughout the day. This data can then be transferred to the DS  via an infrared signal so they can track their progress or set targets for the next day.

Walk with me! will also include mini-games to help motivate games. Accumulated steps can also be used to unlock trivia and create images.

The game is due for release on February 20th, 2009.
