Need for Speed facing the chop?

Speculation about the fate of developers EA Black Box rife in the wake of EA’s job cuts

Various sources across the industry are speculating that EA’s Black Box studio in Canada may soon be closed.

Speculation from unnamed sources also suggests that because of the less than favourable nature of reviews of Need For Speed: Undercover, which also suffered relatively poor sales compared to previous iterations of the series, the status of the once chart-dominating racing canon is also to be downscaled – or even, according to early reports, canned all together.

Developmag.com has the full story – one click is all it takes.

There was nothing wrong with undercover, sure it wasnt a masterpiece but is there any other game like it currently out, the only game relatively close was midtown madness and that has long gone.

Midtown madness... Jesus, I remember that game... The online / Car modification was ridiculous!

I played the 1st Need For Speed on PS2 which I thought was quite good, not played any since, but would be a shame to see it go.

Just let it go. Minor changes from year to year. Nothing spectacular....and to be honest thats what EA needs nowadays, something spectacular to make the sales.

90% of what they bring out is generic reiterations of years old franchises and its clear to see that the market is staring for something new and fresh.
