New Riddick is a true sequel

Dark Athena is not just an expansion, says Atari

Atari has issued a statement saying that Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena features over 11 hours of new content, six multiplayer modes and a completely re-made version of Escape From Butcher Bay.

The publisher made the comments following confusion caused by an interview with Tigon Studios’ head of production Ian Stevens, who described the new game as an "episodic expansion” and not a true sequel to Escape From Butcher Bay.

Atari’s head of PR Lee Kirton said: “Assault on Dark Athena looks incredible, it plays brilliantly, and is without a doubt the most cinematic experiences that I’ve personally come across. It’s around 11 hours of stealth and epic action, and the characters you meet throughout this story are very believable using an impressive game engine from Starbreeze.

“It’s a mature experience which has memorable moments that will have you playing through time and time again. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is a follow up to Butcher Bay as the story continues on from the end of that game and it features breath taking tech throughout – Butcher Bay has been completely remade as well. There’re six multiplayer modes including the Pitch Black and Butcher Bay Riot modes which are unique and need to be experienced.”
