ANNUAL UK SALES: Official figures show big leaps for DS and Wii
While 2008's £4bn market boom comes thanks to the overall wider demographic served by the industry, ELSPA/GFK Chart-Track say that it was Nintendo which 'led the way' in growth during 2008.
Unit sales of games for the format-holder's Wii and DS platforms amounted to 40m in total.
Wii games sales were up 153 per cent in units to 20.1m units sold last year compared to 7.9m units sold in 2007.
The value of the Wii market was up too, with revenue at £481m, up 112 per cent compared with 2007's £227m.
DS was the 'star hand-held performer', with the format selling 19.1m units of software in the UK during 2008 - up 28 per cent over 14.9 in 2007.
Value of the DS market also jumped from £314m in 2007 to £481m in 2008.
