AUSTRALIA: Konami solidifies distribution ties

Publisher agrees to continue its deal with Atari Australia ahead of possible sector restructuring

Konami has told MCV of the turbulence in the Australian games distribution sector and “challenging economic times” following the recent news that distributor Red Ant has been placed into administration.

The publisher, one of many to enjoy partnerships with Red Ant, has reaffirmed its ties with Atari’s distribution arm.

“Konami today announced with immediate effect that it will continue its relationship with Atari Australia, a subsidiary of Infogrames Entertainment," Konami told MCV.

“In view of the changing distribution landscape in Australia and the challenging economic times Konami has reached agreement with Atari Australia that Atari will continue to distribute Konami titles in Australia and New Zealand for the immediate future. The two companies have enjoyed a strong relationship for a number of years and are pleased to continue working together.”

THQ-owned distributor IceStorm last week told MCV that it is ready to pick up additional agreements with publishers if the opportunity arises. Capcom is yet to release specific details of its intentions.
